Our Good Neighbor program works to match members of faith communities and the Reno-Sparks community with extremely low-income folks and folks living in weekly motels. Through this one-to-one relationship building, volunteers will help to provide companionship and case management to low-income folks, assist in building community gardens in weekly motels, provide rides to meetings and appointments, and work with low-income folks to share their stories with the community, stand up for their rights, and be leaders in the fight which directly affects their lives. In exchange, our low-income neighbors will help to share their experiences of systematic barriers and injustice with their Good Neighbor partner and with the community at large, as they feel comfortable and able to do so.
We believe that strong relationships build communities where everyone has a role to play. It is only through deep conversation, long-term relationship, and shared values that we can truly understand the path forward to an economically just Northern Nevada.
We hold monthly potlucks in the weekly motels in order to build relationships and connect folks to potential Good Neighbors, do voter registration, and have monthly trainings in order to ensure each individuals success as a Good Neighbor.
If you are interested in joining our Good Neighbor program, as either a volunteer or as a low-income resident, we invite you to join one of our monthly trainings or attend a community potluck. In order to learn more about how to get involved, please email email@example.com.
