FAVORITE QUOTE OR SCRIPTURE RELATED TO JUSTICE:
“I’m for truth, no matter who tells it. I’m for justice, no matter who it is for or against. I’m a human being, first and foremost, and as such I’m for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole.”
WHAT DOES JUSTICE MEAN TO YOU?
I think justice is about equity and fairness for all individuals regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, age, gender, and social economic background. Every human being deserves the opportunity to succeed, live life to the fullest, with dignity and respect. Justice is also about our ability to see the humanity in others and our moral compass on how we view the world.
WHO IS YOUR JUSTICE SUPERHERO?
It’s so hard to pick one person, there are so many monumental people in our history, and in our present time, fighting to bring justice and equity to our communities. Some heroes that have influenced me are: Sojourner Truth abolitionist and women’s rights advocate; Dolores Huerta and César Chávez, labor rights leaders; Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, civil and human rights leaders. They were in the trenches, fighting, and lifting the voices of people who were exploited, ignored, and abused. They challenged the laws, institutions and systems that oppressed people of color and women at the local, state, national, and international level.
